TNT-Alaska, San Miguel-Northport square off for Semis seats
by Reynald Magallon, July 24, 2019 12:11pm
The TNT Katropa-Alaska Aces, San Miguel Beermen-NorthPort Batang Pier Quarterfinals will come to an end as the four teams figure in a separate do-or-die match-ups in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup at Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.
The sudden-death match between the Beermen and the Batang Pier will happen in the curtain raiser with both teams aiming to leave everything on the floor and book a seat in the Semifinalss.
NorthPort had the luxury of a twice-to-beat advantage but they failed to dispatch SMB in one game, 84-98. They will have another chance to take down the mighty Beermen with rookie Robert Bolick leading the charge for the Batang Pier. The rest of the second seeded team are also eager and motivated to claim one of the semis seats and prevent their eliminations efforts from going to waste.
However, the Beermen are banking on their experience as they try to complete a turn around and make it to the final four. Reigning five-time Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo and import Chris McCullough are expected to carry the load for the SMB.
Meanwhile in the second game, the Katropa are looking to rebound from an embarassing defeat at the hands of the Aces. The top-seeded TNT are the heavy favorites in the series but they were stunned by the No. 8 seed Aces, 108-76, limiting prolific import Terrence Jones to just 19 points. RR Pogoy also looks to bounce back from a dismal two-point performance in Game 1.
Out to stop TNT on their tracks is Alaska, who owned a two game winning streak, surviving a playoff battle against Meralco for the number eighth spot before taking down TNT to force the sudden death.
Chris Banchero and import Diamon Simpson were at the center of the Alaska storm and they aim wreck havoc once again for the Aces.
