Familiarity a big factor for JRU’s NCAA season 95 campaign

The Jose Rizal University (JRU) Heavy Bombers had the luxury of having four of their players from their High School team to make the jump to the Seniors’ team in the ongoing NCAA season 95 basketball tournament.
John Amores, JL Delos Santos, Thomas Vasquez, and Marwin Dionisio were last year’s Light Bombers’ seniors and are now starting to make an impact in the Seniors’ division as rookies.
With the quartet playing for quite some time now, familiarity is certainly there for them and JRU head coach Louie Gonzales rode that, saying that the cohesiveness between Amores, De Los Santos, Vasquez and Dionisio is a big factor for the Heavy Bombers.
“Malaking bagay yung cohesiveness nilang apat eh. If you notice, maraming oras na sila ang magkakasama dahil magkakakilala talaga sila ng husto," Gonzales said after JRU beat the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 71-66, on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.
"Siguro si Tom lang ang nahuhuli. Pero alam na kasi nila yung strengths ng bawat isa at malaking bagay yun and I really ride on that," Gonzales continued.
Two of the four players in Amores and Delos Santos, who joined Gonzales in the post-game presser, agreed with what their coach said.
“Malaking bagay yung familiarity kasi magkakakilala na po kami at hindi na kami maiilang sa bawat isa," Amores said.
"Yung pagsasama namin kada ensayo, ina-adapt ko at ng mga teammates ko yung sistema. Yun lang naman lagi ang sinasabi sa amin ng mga coaches namin, stick to the system lang,” Delos Santos remarked.
For Gonzales, who replaced Vergel Meneses as the Heavy Bombers head coach just last April, having some former Light Bombers joining the Heavy Bombers serves as a solid foundation for the rebuilding JRU Seniors’ squad.
“Ang pinaka-importante is right from the very start when I took over, nagkaroon na kaagad ng connection yung Light Bombers sa Heavy Bombers, which to me, importanteng-importante for the program. Galing isang pamilya na kayo eh."
JRU currently holds on to a 2-3 win-loss card in the tournament.
