The Blackwater Elite forced a winner-take-all Game Three as they survived the Rain or Shine Elastopainters, 100-96, behind Greg Smith's huge 31-point performance in their second meeting in the Best-of-3 Quarterfinals Series of the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Araneta Coliseum on Friday.
Smith also provided the big hits down the stretch after nailing a jumper to keep the Rain or Shine at bay, 97-93 with 44 seconds still left in the game.
The Elite also had to weather a huge fourth quarter storm led by Jayvee Mocon's 18 points in the second half. Rain or Shine even took an 84-83 lead half way through the final frame.
Blackwater, however, kept four straight free throws from Greg Smith and a Mike Digregorio trey to restored a 90-84 advantage.
Jayvee Mocon and Mac Belo exchanged made charities before Mark Borboran nailed a trey to cut the lead down to three points, 92-89.
Ray Parks and Borboran then traded baskets inside before Smith split his charities for a four point cushion, 95-91.
Borboran answered back with two free throws to come within two but Smith restored a four point advantage after the tough turn around jumper. ROS then came up dry on their next offensives as Belo sealed the game with two charities.
Smith also collared 18 boards on top of his offensive explosion while Parks added 28 points before fouling out of the game.
Mocon paced the E-Painters with 25 points while Mark Borboran and Beau Belga added 13 points apiece.
Do-or-die Game 3 will be at the Araneta Coliseum on Thursday.
