Huge third quarter ride for Tamaraws shakes off Cebu Sharks

A three-point barrage and a suffocating defense separated the Mindoro Tamaraws against the Cebu Sharks in the second half to file as the former caught their second win, 94-73, in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Lakan Cup at the Pasig Sports Complex.
Mindoro fired five consecutive three-pointers in the third quarter alone contributed by two triples each for Kim Cinco and Rodel Vaygan before Mac Baracael sunk another one that broke the game wide open.
A thing to be lauded as well was their team defense as the Tamaraws forced Cebu to multiple 24-seconds infractions as they ended the third quarter, 73-54.
Eloy Poligrates tried to will Cebu back in contention in the pay-off period, scoring in several fast break attacks but Vaygan and the Tamaraws had an answer for their opponent's every run attempt.
Vaygan was scorching hot for the Tamaraws, pouring a career-high 30 big points including six triples, with six rebounds and four assists.
Mac Baracael added 14 markers, seven boards and four assists while Sandy Cenal had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.
For Cebu, Rhaffy Octubre had 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists while Will McAloney chipped a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Cebu was still leading in the first frame off a Michael Cinita free throw, 26-20, but Mindoro flipped the second quarter as Cinco knocked down a jumper to grab their first lead at 29-28 before clinching a 47-40 lead in halftime.
The big win halted Mindoro's two game slide and put them at 2-3 win loss card while Cebu went 4-3.
