Agem Miranda hits go ahead trey as JRU books first win at Arellano’s expense

Agem Miranda drilled the game winning triple as Jose Rizal University outlasted Arellano University, 80-77, on Friday in the NCAA season 95 Men’s Seniors basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena.
The 6-foot-1 wingman totalled 26 points, including the last five that lifted the Heavy Bombers to the victory.
Miranda, who had to overcome cramps, first tied the game at 77-apiece after scoring on a putback off a John Amores trey at the 29.3 second mark and gave the Heavy Bombers the victory by converting a corner triple with 1.7 second mark.
“Napaka importante ng sa akin ng panalo na to talaga,” JRU head coach Louie Gonzales said.
“Coming into this game, I prayed really hard na maibigay sa amin yung panalo,” he added.
Miranda added five rebounds and three assists to his name, while Stefan Steini backstopped him with 14 points and eight rebounds. Amores added 11 markers, two rebounds and two steals in the win.
Rence Alcoriza paced the Chiefs with 21 points and four rebounds as Kent Salado turned in 16 points, six assists and five caroms.
The Heavy Bombers improved to a 1-3 win-loss card as the Chiefs dropped to a 0-3 record.
