Robbie Manalang glad to perform at the highest level once more

Former Adamson University Falcon Robbie Manalang is glad to be able to perform at his best once more as part of the Pasig Realtors in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup.

After being drafted and left unsigned by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters last year, Manalang spent some time in the Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League woking on his game. About one year after playing his best basketball in the D-League, Manalang showcased the best of his abilities on Saturday, scoring 10 of the Pasig Realtors’ last 14 points to give his team a 71-68 victory.

“I felt a cramp in my leg in the third quarter and wasn’t sure If I’ll still be performing in the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter is where you win or lose games. I just want to do that for my team,” said Manalang after the game.

Asked when he was able to perform at that high a level, Manalang pointed to the time when he was still preparing for the PBA Rookie Draft.

“A year ago in the D-League, that was the best basketball I was playing and I was getting ready for the PBA Draft. It’s really good to perform again.”

When Manalang did not get to the PBA, however, he had second thoughts about still having a basketball career.

“I knew about it, but I was checking If I’m gonna play. I got drafted by Rain or Shine, but wasn’t signed. I wasn’t sure about my career,” he said. “I was in the D-League for a little while, but I didn’t finish the season. I’m still working on my game, but I wasn’t sure of my opportunity there.”

But with the doors of MPBL opened to him by Sta. Lucia and the Pasig squad, Manalang is just so happy to grab the opportunity to play once more.

“This is a great opportunity for me. I’m thinking of not playing basketball anymore, but when this opportunity came along, I want to take advantage of it. I’m very grateful for Sta. Lucia and Pasig,” he said.

“As long as I love the game, I’m gonna keep playing,” Manalang added.
