Coach Gerry Esplana praises Valenzuela defense in winning streak

Coach Gerry Esplana liked what his team has shown against the Cebu Sharks after being down by 13 points at some point in the first quarter to win their fourth straight assignment, 69-66.
"The difference about this team, unlike the previous team, we have nag-gigive up na yan eh. [In this game,] they kept their composure until we get our bearings para makabalik kami," said Coach Esplana.
The SPV TOP Marketplace-backwd team was able to show their asset, their defense, late in the game to spoil the chances of Cebu despite having the taste of their own medicine in the final quarter.
"Yan ang gusto ko e. Alam mo wala sa amin pagiging scorer eh, it's all collective efforts. Ang mindset namin is we keep the score low. So yun score na yan is a sign."
"This is an indication of who we are as a team. Marami pa ring inconsistencies, we'll work on it, we'll get that in this win and then we work."
Handling another coaching job after five years, coach Esplana, who last coached the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, is pleased to see his boys improving. That improvement is converting into their wins.
"Eh basketball, first love ko yan. More than half of my life, siguro 80 percent basketball. Bata pa lang ako. So mula player hanggang sa pagco-coach. Nandun yung puso mo eh. And ang pinakamaganda sa pagco-coach, nai-impart mo yung knowledge eh."
"Yung winning secondary eh, ang gusto ko nag-i-improve. At the end of the day temporary lang naman tayo rito, so yung mga players, ang medal ng coach is makitang nag-improve yung player eh. Masaya na ako ron."
