Defense a top priority to defend the title, says John Wilson

San Juan Knights will need to take greater pride on their defense with as all teams have their eyes on the Datu Cup champions' crown, said veteran John Wilson after they dismantled the Bacolod Master's Sardines Wednesday night at the Olivarez College Gymnasium.

"For me more on team defense, kasi alam namin na target kami ng lahat ng team kasi defending champion. Ang mindset namin is dumipensa as a team."

"Doon kami nabubuhay. Doon kami mananalo if dumipensa kami as a team. So yung offense darating lang talaga," said Wilson after erupting for 22 points, 11 in the first quarter.

With greater pressure on their side, Wilson has been challenging himself to be better as teams got reloaded this season.

"Actually I motivate myself na every game, every practice ginagawa ko is nagpi-prepare ako kahit sinong makalaban."

"Kahit sabihin man ng iba kayang-kaya yung kalaban, nagpi-prepare ako as a [part if the] team and as an individual. Nagpe-prepare talaga ako."

And so far, the Knights are being rewarded as San Juan has a 4-0 win-loss record.

Wilson also added that the team went back from the start, just like any other teams in the league.

"Tapos na yung championship. New season, back to zero kami. Di namin iniisip na kami yung champion, kami yung malakas. Back to zero kami. Back to drawing board talaga kami."
