Zion Williamson out for the rest of Summer League with knee injury
by Jim Lemuel Wilson, July 07, 2019 10:58am
Number 1 overall draft pick Zion Williamson will be out for the rest of the NBA Summer League after suffering a knee injury on Saturday (Philippine time), according to New Orleans Pelicans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin.
"Zion will move forward from this incident without issue,” said Griffin.
"However, in an abundance of caution, we have made the determination that he will not appear in game action for the remainder of the NBA Summer League," he added.
Williamson suffered a bruised knee after a collision with another player during the Pelicans-New York Knicks game in the preseason tournament. The Duke standout scored 11 points on a multitude of dunks in the first half of his first summer league game before the injury.
He, however, will continue training with the team as they prepare for the regular season.
"He will continue to take part in training and conditioning with our performance team," Griffin said.
