Randy Alcantara on Pasay’s 21-point comeback: ‘Mas aggressive lang siguro sila nung second quarter’

San Juan Knights head coach Randy Alcantara admitted that his team’s level of aggressiveness dropped when they posted a 21-point lead in their Friday against the Pasay Voyagers in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup in San Juan.
The Knights were hot on both ends in the opening frame as they led 26-5 after the first 10 minutes of play. The Voyagers, however, came to within 31-40 at the half and 56-59 at the end of the third quarter. Pasay even took the lead late in the fourth canto and even had a chance to win the game, but San Juan displayed their poise to take their second win of the tournament.
“Maganda yung dinepensa din nila saka maganada yung atake nila, so credit to them na talagang maganada yung game plan nila para samin. So lead by 20 points then second quarter 26-16, mejo nag lay low yung depensa namin,” Alcantara told the members of the press after the game.
“Maganda yung depensa nila. Nandun naman talaga kami, nag hustle kami. Mas agressive lang siguro sila nung second-quarter. Kasi yun naman ang tendency ng mga nalalamangan, humabol nang humabol,” the coach added.
Alcantara also said that his second unit was not up to par with the energy displayed by the second unit of the visiting team.
“Kami naman siguro, yung second unit namin, hindi gaanong [nakasabay] dun sa second unit nila. Kaya maganda yung second quarter nila, nakahabol.”
The Datu Cup champions now hold a 2-0 win-loss record, but both of their games could have gone either way if the Knights did not come up with big plays down the stretch.
“Gaya nung sinabi ko nung di pag nag-i-start yung season, nagpalakas nga talaga lahat ng teams. So alam na namin, expected ko na ;to na ganito yung mangyayari,” Alcantara said.
