Datu Cup champions San Juan tests Pasay; Parañaque aims for second win opposite debuting Iloilo

by Jim Lemuel Wilson, June 28, 2019 12:03am

The San Juan Knights look to test the mettle of the new-look Pasay Voyagers while the Parañaque Patriots aim for their second win of the tournament on Friday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup in San Juan.

The Knights escaped with a 77-76 victory over the Bacoor Strikers when they opened their tournament on June 16. With young guns Orlan Wamar, Mike Ayonayon, and Jhonard Clarito, and veteran guys John Wilson, Mac Cardona, and Larry Rodriguez back, the Knights are among the favorites to win it all this season.

They now face the Voyagers who are off to a 2-0 win-loss start to the Lakan Cup, their last win coming at the expense of the Muntinlupa Cagers, 76-75. Elvin Chan, Dhon Reverente, John Jamon, and Axel Iñigo will look to provide some production for the team as they aim for their third win in a row.

The San Juan-Pasay game is set at 9 pm, following the 6:30 collision between the Parañaque Patriots and the debuting Iloilo United Royals.

Jemal Vizcarra will once again try to lead the Patriots to a win while Aaron Jeruta is looking to banner the Royals’ cause. Makati and Bacolod, meanwhile, open the day's schedule at 4:30 pm.
