Gilas U-19 to play tuneup against Al Rayyan Basketball club team in Qatar

Before heading to Greece for the Basketball World Cup, the Gilas Pilipinas Under-19 basketball team will be holding a training camp and a pair of tuneup games in Qatar, team manager Andrew Teh said on Tuesday.
“We’re going to play two tuneup games there against Al Rayyan. It’s a professional club team in Qatar. It’s one of the good club teams,” Teh said during the Philippine Sportswriters Association forum at the Amelie Hotel in Manila.
Al Rayyan is one of the most celebrated franchises’ in Qatari basketball. Founded in the 1970s, Al Rayyan has won more than 30 titles from the Qatari Championship, Emir Cup, and Qatar Crown Prince Cup.
Several versions of the Philippine national basketball team and even different teams from the Philippine Basketball Associations have also held tuneup games against the squad in order to prepare for different tourneys.
Now, Kai Sotto, AJ Edu, and company will get their chance to prove that they can compete against grown men.
The Gilas U-19 squad is set to fly to Qatar on Friday. That will be their pit stop before heading to Greece for the World Cup.
