Despite broken relationship with Pelinka, Johnson congratulates Lakers GM for pulling off Davis trade

One of the reasons why Magic Johnson stepped down as the Los Angeles Lakers President of Basketball Operations last season was his broken relationship with the Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka.
After his resignation, the Lakers great claimed that Pelinka was whispering and stabbing him in the back.
While it's unclear whether or not the two have already reconciled, Johnson still came out and went on to congratulate Pelinka for finally getting Davis for the purple and gold - as was reported by Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times.
“Our leaders stepped up for the L.A. fan base and for LeBron (James),” Johnson said.
“And despite what Rob and I have gone through, I want to congratulate him. He pulled off a major trade for the Lakers, and just congratulations to him,” he added.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Sunday morning (Philippine time) that the Lakers have acquired Davis by sending Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and three first round picks to the New Orleans Pelicans.
With All-Star center Davis now joining forces with James, Johnson believes that the Lakers are back in title contention.
“We’re back, we’re back, we’re back where we should be and in the championship hunt.”
Apparently, acquiring Davis is just the beginning for the Lakers.
Reports surfaced that the storied franchise is still looking to add a star player who will join James and Davis in the fold.
Stars who are set to become free agents this July like Kawhi Leonard, Kemba Walker, and Kyrie Irving are reportedly being considered by the Lakers.
