Former University of the East Red Warrior Jason Varilla has signed up to play for the Valenzuela Classic in the next season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
Varilla himself confirmed the development to Courtside Philippines in a phone interview.
“I’ll be playing for them this season,” Varilla said.
The 6’ 2” guard also said that he feels that he can provide a lot of things to the team as his own style of play fits well with that of the squad.
“My game is I can score, I can shoot, I can play good defense. I feel like [Paolo] Hubalde can run the point and set up all the plays, the offense will run through him. Me, I can play defense, so I think I can fit really well,” he said.
Varilla said that he got a warm welcome from the team’s veterans Hubalde and Chris de Chavez and that he is looking forward to great competition in the league.
“I expect to be in a good team with a lot of veterans there. I expect to play a lot and just experience a new journey as [Valenzuela's] collegiate player,” Varilla said.
“I’m very excited and I expect great competition. When I follow social media and I see that teams are stacking their lineups with good players. So I expect a high level of play and challenge to be there. And I am excited to play,” he added.
