RK Ilagan had a great follow up to his excellent tournament debut as he dropped 28 points to lead the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Stags to an 85-81 victory over the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers on Tuesday in the 2019 FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.
Already having an excellent offensive showing, Ilagan caught fire late in the fourth quarter as he scored seven of the last nine points by his team, including the three-pointer that put them ahead, 82-81.
Mark Nonoy had a chance to steal the game for UST, but he missed the jumper that could have given his team back the lead before Ilagan sank three of his last four foul shots to seal the deal.
Ilagan’s 28 markers also came with five rebounds, five assists, and one block. JM Calma also contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds while Allyn Bulanadi tallied 15 points and five boards.
Rhenz Abando topped the Growling Tigers with 21 points and nine rebounds, as the super-rookie Nonoy got 18 points, five boards, and five assists.
The win gave the Stags a 2-0 win-loss record, tied with the San Beda University Red Lions atop the Group A team standings. They also pulled the Tigers to 1-3, second to the last in the same group.
In the first game, the National University Bulldogs buried the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, 79-47.
Robert Minerva led the Bulldogs to their second win in four games with 11 markers, eight rebounds, and two assists. JRU dropped to 0-3.
