Jaycee Marcelino thinks that he and his brother Jayvee need to step up to the leadership role to make sure that the Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates gets to become a single functional unit for the rest of the 2019 FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup and for the upcoming National Collegiate Athletic Association season.
Two games and two wins into the post-CJ Perez era, the Pirates are looking to be in good shape. The team may be yet to identify who they can rely on when adversity comes, but Jayvee is willing to step onto the plate, and he is bringing his brother with him.
Back from last year’s NCAA squad are Niño Ibañez, Jeff Santos, Reymar Caduyac, Enoch Valdez, Jayvee and Jaycee, Mike Nzeusseu, and Rhanzelle Yong.
Toci Tansingco is also making a return while the team will also have Jerwyn Guinto, Alvin Baetiong, Lorenzo Navarro, Jayson David, Yancy Remulla, Casper Pericas, Jamba Garing, and Vincent Cunanan.
Jaycee, however, clarified that everyone in the team must be able to step up to anyone and tell them if they see something wrong.
For his part, Jayvee is echoing coach Topex Robinson’s remarks about giving every member of the team an equal opportunity to lead.
In an earlier talk with the media, Robinson said that Lyceum “create[s] leaders.”
“If you’re a player, we make sure that the environment is we breed leaders, we’re not trying to breed followers,” Robinson said.
