BATANG PBA: Meralco, Phoenix score separate wins on opening day

Meralco and Phoenix Pulse scored separate wins on the opening day of the 2019 Batang PBA tournament Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Bolts electrocuted the San Miguel Beermen, 78-45, in the 12-13 years old contest. Gelris Bulilan led Meralco with 15 points while Monique Fetalvero backstopped him with 13 points. 

Christopher Laus paced San Miguel by putting up 16 markers as Trystan Galotera chipped in eight points in a losing effort.

On the other hand, the Fuel Masters burned the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 75-56, in the 14-15 years old bracket.

Dowilliam Trister Jr. unloaded 18 points to lead Phoenix while Paolo Alcazar provided the support with his 10 points. Kenn Obile put up eight markers for the Rain or Shine as Patrick Alcantara added seven points.

The 12-13 years old tournament is composed of six teams divided into two groups. The Alaska Aces, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, and the Blackwater Elite made up the Group A, while the Bolts, Beermen, and the Columbian Dyip are the squads in Group B.

Meanwhile, the 14-15 years old tournament has eight participating teams who are also divided into two groups. Phoenix Pulse and Rain or Shine are in the Group C and they are joined by the TNT KaTropa and the North All-Stars in the said group.

The NorthPort Batang Pier, Magnolia Hotshots, NLEX Road Warriors, and the South All-Stars made up the Group D.


NLEX takes on NorthPort (9:00 a.m); Alaska battles Blackwater (10:30 a.m), and Magnolia faces the North All Stars (12:00 p.m.) on Wednesday, May 15 at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao, Quezon City.
