University of the Philippines hotshot Ricci Rivero met with his former team in the De La Sallle Green Archers on Sunday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup at the San Juan Arena.
And boy, he did put on a show.
Rivero dropped 28 points including big shots down the stretch to carry the Fighting Maroons to a 92-85 thrilling victory.
While lots of people might say that Rivero had a chip on his shoulder going up agsinst his former team, the 6-foot-1 guard insisted that it was just business as usual for him.
"Nothing really special naman. Like what coach Bo (Perasol) said, it's not about winning against La Salle or winning against any other team. We're playing basketball here, so it's about winning each and every game, one game at a time," Rivero said.
Above anything else, Rivero is focused on the Fighting Maroons becoming a better team every time they take the hardcourt.
"It's not just beating this team or whatever, that won't make you a good team. What makes your team good is first by staying together, trusting each other, and trusting the system," he shared.
"And then next is the willingness to win. It's not just beating any specific team," he added.
Rivero, however, wasn't the only one who turned in a spectacular performance in UP's win.
Javi Gomez de Liano also had himself a game, dropping 25 points and six rebounds. Jun Manzo was just as impressive, cashing in 18 points, nine boards, and seven assists.
The Fighting Maroons have now won back-to-back games to improve to a 2-1 win-loss card in Group A of the tournament.
