Warriors take Game 5 vs Rockets

The Golden State Warriors drubbed the Houston Rockets, 104-99, to take Game Five of their Western Conference Semifinals series in front of their home fans at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California on Thursday (Philippine time).
With the win, the Warriors now hold a 3-2 advantage over the Rockets going into Game Six of their match, which will be played on Saturday (Philippine time) at the Toyota Center in Texas.
Golden State survived the late-game surge of the Rockets in spite of the absence of Kevin Durant, who went out in the third quarter due to a calf strain, through the effort of star guard Stephen Curry.
Curry stepped up to the plate when the Warriors needed him the most, scoring 12 big points in the payoff period en route to a 25-point outing together with his six rebounds and five assists of the night.
The Warriors were in control of the match-up in the first two quarters of the affair, leading the Rockets by as much as 14 points, 57-43, going into the midgame break.
However, the Rockets exploded for 29 points in the third canto while limitting their opponents to just 15 points to put themselves in a 72-all headlock with just a quarter left to play.
Durant's injury was not a pleasant sight for the Warriors as the Rockets started to get their groove on towards the finals minutes of play but Curry came up big to douse the fire of their foes before the final whistle.
Sharpshooter Klay Thompson also was a vital cog in the triumph with 25 points including five converted three pointers, most of which were sank in the Warriors' fierce first half blitzh.
Despite playing only three quarters, Durant still managed to make his presence felt with 22 markers on 8-of-18 shooting performance. Draymond Green also had a stellar performance in the night with 12 rebounds and 11 assists with his eight points.
For the Rockets, James Harden led the charge with 31 points and eight assists.
